Google Drive Has A Feature For Suspicious Files With Big Yellow Banners

Google Drive is now presenting a special warning to files in its Drive if they are deemed suspicious. The warning appears with a large yellow banner label at the top of the document you open.

This is a step for Google to find new ways to protect users from spam and abusive practices of its services. The year was filled with Drive calendar and spam, among others, where suspicious events, files, and more randomly appeared in accounts around the world.

Well, now we have a look at the auto-blocking tool built into Google Drive. As in an updated Google Workspace blog post, the company details its efforts to control suspicious files when users preview them on Drive. If something you open contains malware, ransomware, or a phishing scheme, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Images will now display a clear yellow banner at the top that says the following:

This file looks suspicious. It may be used to steal your personal information

This is very useful if you are one of the Google Drive users, who are not completely safe from their irresponsible behavior. As was the case in 2020, scammers were seen exploiting Drive to send emails and push notifications through Drive. The messages seem legitimate at first glance, but they actually redirect the recipient to a malicious website.

As with other phased rollouts, the new Drive security alert won’t be available to everyone immediately but will arrive in the next two weeks.
