A rumor has it that the New Apple Glass will use a Pancake Lens and AMOLED glass. Even a few days ago, a PR boss report stated that the possible release date for Apple Glass is still a mystery.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the official presentation of Apple Glass is expected at the end of 2022. Apart from the expected release date, Kuo also mentioned that the innovative lens technology is also seen in more detail.
In a report from TF International Securities, there is also talk that a “3D pancake lens” will also be attached to Apple Glass. The advantage of this lens is that light is reflected by the curvature between the lens and the screen. This particular feature could give Apple a decisive edge in the design, which should be incredibly compact and lightweight.
Two OLED displays and an AMOLED display in New Apple Glass?
Image from The Information shows a possible view from Apple View. You can see the rounded front and interchangeable mounts and soft protective material on the glasses themselves. The image was actually published in early 2021 and is being traded as a realistic concept for Apple Glass.
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), further fueled the rumors a few days ago with information surrounding the display of the device. According to the information, two OLED screens and one AMOLED screen will be used.
While OLED is perfect for VR headsets due to the possible high pixel density, the use of AMOLED panels is even more impressive. As MacRumors speculates, AMOLED panels with lower pixel density could be used more for displays in the peripheral field of view.
Sony has also presented new prototypes for its two 4K OLED displays on its in-house Technology Day in December 2021. According to Young, it is very likely that this screen was developed specifically for Apple. If this were true, a resolution of 4,000 x 4,000 pixels would be very high. Unlike Kuo, Young claims that the Apple Glass will be presented at Apple’s WWDC in June 2022.
